Clara B. Inman, 84, passed away of natural causes on February 16, 2017 in Hays, Kansas. She was born August 28, 1932 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ralph R. Leaverton and Alice Goldie (White) Leaverton. Clara married Jerry L. Inman in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1950. Jerry and Clara met while in high school. Their love story started when Clara boarded the bus after school and Jerry, already on the bus, asked his buddies if 'any of then knew the good looking, red headed, cheerleader that just got on the bus.' Jerry, the outgoing gentleman that he was, made a point to ask this cheerleader for a date. They had been married for 65 years before Jerry's death in January of 2016. The first part of their married life was spent in St. Joseph, Missouri where Clara was a homemaker and Jerry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and then for Leaverton Auto Supply. In 1964, they bought Hays Auto Parts and moved the family to Hays, Kansas. Jerry and Clara became business partners and worked tirelessly together to build their own business until they were forced to retire in 1999 when Jerry suffered a stroke and Clara became his Caregiver. Together , they were active in the Shrine club where they took numerous trips and made lifelong friends. Clara loved to cook and bake, especially at Christmas, with all kinds of cookies and candies. She spent hours gardening and turned their yard into something right out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. She loved her little Boston Terrier dogs and always had one or two. In St. Joseph and Hays, Clara was a Brownie Scout leader and a Girl Scout Leader. She and her family were members of the First Christian Church in Hays. Clara was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, parents Ralph and Alice Leaverton, her brothers Ralph and William Leaverton, her sisters Dorothy Martin and Alice Faye Wolff. Father-in-law and Mother-In-law William A. and Daisy M. Inman, and brother-in-laws Wayne Inman and Dale Inman.
