Cheryl Lynette Helget, of Ellis, died at home Saturday, March 14, 2015. She was 54 years old. She was born June 30, 1960, in Chicago, Ill., to Alan Theodore and Virginia Beth (Burk) Duell. She graduated in 1978 from Ellis High School and received a Bachelors degree in Computer Science in 1982 from Fort Hays State University. She married John Helget on Nov. 5, 1983, then earned a Masters in Business Administration in 2001, also from Fort Hays State University. In 2011 she was a recipient of the Presidents Distinguished Service Award. She worked as a software systems analyst for Fort Hays State University for many years and served as president and member of the Ellis USD 388 School Board of Education. She also served on the Kansas Association of School Boards for 16 years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis, where she was an avid supporter of childrens programs. She also served as Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in Ellis. She is survived by her husband, John, of Ellis; a son, Jordan Ross Helget, and his fianc, Chelsea Mehrhoff, both of Vail, Ariz.; a daughter, Paige Olivia (Helget) Campbell, and her husband, Dylan, of Oakley; her mother, Virginia Duell, of Ellis; a brother, Alan Duell, and his wife, Susan, of Alva, Okla.; two sisters, Ramona (Duell) Bock, and her husband, William, of Rockford, Ill., and Rae Michelle (Duell) Seeber, of Ellis; a step son, Marty Helget, of Wichita; two grandchildren, Cana Grace Campbell and Samuel Jacob Campbell; a step grandson, Henry Helget, and a sister-in-law, Judy Helget, of WaKeeney. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister-in-law, Evelyn "Punkie" Erbert. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Christ Lutheran Church, 106 E. 8th St., Ellis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church. Before her death, she asked that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church Childrens Program. Interment will be at 4 p.m. CST (3 p.m. MST) at the Goodland City Cemetery, Goodland. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th St., Ellis, 67637.
