Charles L. Schmidt, age 62, of rural Antonino, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his home. He was born April 13, 1952 in Hays, Kansas to Richard R. and Mabel M. (Werth) Schmidt. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1970. He married Alexia Gross in 1975 in Antonino.
Charles was a farmer from 1971 until 1994 when he decided to leave farming and go to school. He graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Masters' degree in Geology. He worked for the division of water resources in Garden City, KS as an Environmental Technician II. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Antonino, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Schoenchen Council #4166 and a 4th degree Knights of Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly. He was also a past board member of the Hays Co-Op serving from 1982-1994.
He is survived by his Wife, Alexia of the home; six daughters, Ann and Jill Schmidt of Haviland, KS, Andrea (Larry) Feldkamp of Manhattan, KS, Alison (Doug) Dinkel of Ellis, Janell (Judd) McCormack of St. George, KS, Joan (Ben) Karst of Hays; ten grandchildren, Alyssa and Kyla McCormack, Katrina and Kailey Delimont, Hendrix and Jaxon Karst, Landon and Lucas Dinkel and Kendall and Logan Feldkamp; his mother, Mabel Schmidt of Via Christi Village, Hays; three sisters, Joanne (Don) Wilcox of Salina, Elaine (Dennis) Allen of Scott City and Karen Schmidt of Hays; five brothers, Gary (Kathy) Schmidt of Topeka, Richard (Vicki) Schmidt of Mulvane, Dan (Joan) Schmidt of Hoisington, Mark (Becky) Schmidt of Colwich, Cecil (Eileen) Schmidt of Topeka.
Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Antonino. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday 4-8 PM and Tuesday 9 AM - 9:30 AM at Brock's - Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine St Hays, KS 67601.
A combined 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 followed by a parish vigil at 7PM Monday all at the funeral chapel. A 4th degree honor guard will be present at 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM Monday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to: Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Center, TMP, Hospice of Hays Med or Masses.
