Cecil F. Gottschalk, age 80, of Hays, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hays Medical Center. He was born October 5, 1935 in Hays, Kansas to Philip and Ludwina (Werth) Gottschalk. He was a graduate of St. Josephs Military Academy and attended college. He married Dorothy Befort on August 18, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.
Cecil owned and operated the Varsity barbershop in Hays for more than 45 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and farming and he was an avid fan of the Kansas State Wildcats. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 3rd degree St. Anthony council Knights of Columbus member.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; four sons, Gregg Gottschalk (Patricia), Chris Gottschalk (Krista), Galen Gottschalk, all of Hays, Troy Gottschalk (April) of Westminster, CO; two daughters, Jan Meade (Joe) of Coppell, TX and Becky Serri (Andy) of OFallon, MO; grandchildren, TJ and Luke Gottschalk, Katie Burkman, Taylor and Ryan Meade, Shayla Gottschalk, Sarah Gottschalk, Alyssa, Haley and Makenna Gottschalk, Gabe Serri, Jack and Alex Gottschalk; great-grandchildren, Teagan, Adilyn, Jonah, Remington Gottschalk, Lily and Miles Gottschalk and Emerson Burkman; sisters, Sr. Donna Gottschalk, CSA, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Raeann (Charles) Suppes, Marshall, MO; six brothers, Donald (Theresa) Gottschalk, Leon (Dolores) Gottschalk, Floyd Gottschalk, all from Hays, Phil (Bernadette) Gottschalk, Edmond, OK, Fr. David Gottschalk, OFM CAP, Colorado Springs, CO, and Andy Gottschalk, Aurora, CO; a sister-in-law, Nita Gottschalk of Hays and a brother-in-law, Ron Legleiter of Overland Park, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Fr. Andrew Gottschalk, Vernon Gottschalk and wife Jeanette, Ivan Gottschalk, Stephen Gottschalk; a sister Helen Legleiter, a sister-in-law Mary Catherine Gottschalk, and a grandson Shane Gottschalk.
Funeral services will be 2 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday 4 PM - 8 PM and Saturday 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.
A Knights of Columbus rosary will be Friday at 6:30 PM followed by a parish vigil at 7 PM all at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to TMP-Marian or the Capuchin Province of Mid-America.
