Catherine R. Bailey

Catherine (Katie) Bailey passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015 at her home in Ellis, Ks. Catherine Rose Bailey was born May 28, 1922 to Clarence A and Caroline Anna Marie (Schepman) Christopher. She grew up on the family farm in Trego Co. Kansas, attending school in Ellis, graduating from Ellis High School in 1940. Her working career began as a teller at the Central Bank and Trust Company in Denver, Colorado where she met her future husband James Monroe Bailey, Jr. They were married January 27, 1946. The two eventually left Denver and moved to WaKeeney, Kansas. Three years later, they made their permanent home in Ellis where she worked for a number of years at the Ellis State Bank. She then finished her career in the Business Office at FHSU where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 1987. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Joyce Linna. She is survived by 3 daughters, Cheryl Wagner of Ellis, Karen (Dave) Hendrickson of Hays and Catherine G. Bailey of Dallas, Texas, one brother, Leroy A. Christopher of Lees Summit, Missouri, one niece, and one nephew. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 5 PM - 8 PM at Keithley Funeral Chapel and Thursday, 10 AM until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Ellis United Methodist Church or to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
