Caroline Schmidt

Caroline Rita (Dreiling) Schmidt, age 84, of Hays, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Hays Medical Center. She was born August 7,1928 in Victoria to Balthasar and Elizabeth (Graf) Dreiling. She married George J. Schmidt Sr. on August 15, 1949 in Victoria. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1981.

She worked at St. Anthony Hospital, Travenol Laboratory, Dillons Bakery, Social Security Office, and Sternberg Museum. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved working at Sternberg, seeing the new exhibits and meeting interesting people. She enjoyed volunteering and being a senior companion. She also enjoyed visits from her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Ralph Schmidt of Pearl City, Hawaii, Howard Schmidt of Hays, George Schmidt Jr. and wife Kristy of McPherson, Ks; two daughters, Kathy Quigley and husband Dan of Manhattan, Ks. Elizabeth Speer and husband Lynden of Clearwater, Ks.; four brothers Fridolin "Fritz" Dreiling and wife Edna of Victoria, Vince Dreiling and wife Ellen of Hays, Bill Dreiling and wife Mildred of Hays, Francis Dreiling of Victoria; two sisters Mary Theresa "Theresa" Brungardt and husband Eddie of Walker, Elizabeth "Betty" Schmidt and husband Vernon of Hays; a sister-in-law Delores "Dee" Dreiling of Hays; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Sylvester Dreiling, Robert Dreiling and two sisters Seraphina "Sarah" Davis, Alfreda "Freda" Grabbe.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church In Hays. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM to 8PM and Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at Brocks North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601

A VFW Ladies Auxiliary Memorial service will be Friday at 6:15 PM followed by a rosary service at 6:30 PM and a parish vigil service at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Sternberg Museum.
