Obituary





Carol B. Eddy, 92, of Hays died Tuesday, January 25, 2022. She was born November 13, 1929, to William O. and Vera (Capron) Bates.

She was a graduate of Hays High School and was crowned Hays Highs first Homecoming Queen in 1946. She continued her education at Kansas State University and the University of Kansas before her marriage to Dr. Vic Eddy in 1950.

Carol was an active and energetic volunteer for the City of Hays for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Hays Beautification Board, one of the first board members of the Hays Arts Council, Hays Library Board Member and Hays Library Trust Board Member, Hays Business and Professional Women, "Woman of the Year" recipient in 1993 and for 25 years she was a Certified Fitness Instructor for the Hays Recreation Commission.

Her signature accomplishment was Founder and President of the Humane Society of the High Plains in Hays. In addition, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi at KSU and also a member of P.E.O. in Hays.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Victor M. Eddy and brother, William "Bill" Bates.

She is survived by her son, Steven Eddy and wife, Patti, Arvada, CO; two daughters, Carolyn Houchin, Chipita Park, CO; Jan Castelli and husband John, Bartlesville, OK; three grandchildren, Meghan Taylor and husband Corey, Denver, CO; Allison Widder, and husband Travis, Westminster, CO; Kerry Roberts and husband Gavin, North Ogden, UT; and 6 great grandchildren. Finally but not least of all, two feral cats.

There will be a memorial celebration of life reception on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Smoky Hill Country Club, in Hays, for friends and family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Humane Society of the High Plains, in care of Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
