Brenda Gabel

Brenda Sue Gabel, age 52 of Hays, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at Hays Medical Center. She was born February 4, 1962 in Fayetteville, NC to Virgel Weigel and Darlene VonFeldt. She graduated from Marian High School in 1980. She married Curtis G. Gabel on October 17, 1981 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays.



Brenda had previously worked at several area banks and was currently working as a loan specialist for Equity Bank of Hays. She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church where she also had taught religious education classes and was a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also on the Board of Directors of CASA and a Chamber Ambassador.



She is survived by her husband, Curtis of the home; a son, Nicholas Gabel and wife Jaymi of Hays; two daughters, Ashley Knoll and husband Michael of Topeka and Kara Gabel of the home; a sister, Becky Woodard and husband Paul of Arlington, TX; a granddaughter, Reagan Knoll of Topeka; her father Virgel Weigel and step-mother Pat of Hays; her mother, Darlene (VonFeldt) Schlesinger of Victoria; two step-brothers, Doug Hammett and wife Bev of South Africa and Ron Hammett and wife Stacy of Allentown, PA; and three step-sisters, Rhonda Larscheid and husband Don, Kristi Carson and husband Tim all of Topeka and Susan Hammett of Hays.



Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will be Friday 5:30 PM - 8 :00 PM at St. Nicholas of Myra Church and Saturday 9 AM - 9:30 AM at Brock's Funeral Chapel ~ 2509 Vine ~ Hays, KS 67601.



A rosary service will be Friday at 6:30 followed by a parish vigil service at 7 PM all at St. Nicholas Church



In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to CASA or the Kara Gabel Education Fund.
