Obituary
Berno Joseph "Bud" Jacobs age 100 years, 1 month, and 30 days, of Gorham, Kansas died Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Wheatland Nursing Care Center in Russell, Kansas.
Bud was born to Joseph and Anna (Baumrucker) Jacobs on February 1, 1922, at the family home South of Gorham, Kansas.
He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Gorham thru his Sophomore year, then He attended St. Joseph's Military School in Hays for one year. He returned to Gorham Rural High School his Junior year, and graduated in the first graduating class at Gorham Rural High School in 1941.
Bud grew up and worked on the family farm South of Gorham until enlisting in the US Army in November of 1942. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines and was discharged in December of 1945. He was a farmer and worked for many years as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker. He also worked as a stone mason, and bricklayer. Bud had a dry sense of humor which all the family benefitted from it.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gorham, a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post # 6240, and the Gorham Council Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his four nephews, Mark Anderson and wife, Cindy, Rexford, KS; Mike Anderson Gorham, KS; Tim Jacobs and wife, Karla Parachute, CO; Leon Jacobs and wife, Debbie, McPherson, KS; his four nieces, Judy Corley, Gorham, KS; Marie Hartwick Ellsworth, KS; Theresa Garnhart and husband, Kevin, Genesco, KS; Jerri Wulff and husband, Mike, Clinton, MN; 18 great nieces and nephews; and 32 great-great nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Jacobs and wife Ann; his sisters, Lucille Anderson and husband Louis; and Genevieve Jacobs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Gorham, Kansas with Father Michael Elan officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Gorham, Kansas with Military Rites conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, at St. Marys Catholic Church with a Gorham Knights of Columbus rosary at 10:30 A.M. The family suggests memorials payable to: St. Marys Cemetery in care of the mortuary.
