Augie Herman

August Joseph "Augie" Herman Jr., age 76, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at his home. He was born October 21, 1936 on the family farm south of Ellis, Kansas to August and Mary (Kisner) Herman Sr. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1954. He married Sandra Ashbaugh on May 12, 1956 in Ellis at St. Marys Catholic Church.

Augie was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus both in Ellis. He was a long time member of Ellis Country Club where he enjoyed golfing and playing pinochle. He was also an avid snooker player.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Ellis; three sons, Timothy Herman and fianc Kaylin Stolz, Danny Herman and wife Jenna and Galen Herman and wife Annette all of Hays; two daughters, Kimberly Thomason and husband Michael of Hays and Tammy Gottschalk and husband Loran of Ellis; two brothers, George Herman and wife Charlene of Abilene and Kenneth Herman and wife Ruth of Topeka; a sister Rosita Augustine of Topeka; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Theodore Herman; three brothers, Marvin, Paul and Ralph Herman; and three sisters, Mary Ryder, Matilda Markos and Ann Whitney.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at St. Marys Church in Ellis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 PM to 8PM at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ellis. A rosary service will be Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. followed by a parish vigil service all at the church.
