Annette Ruder, 75, of Houston formerly of Hays died Friday, May 6, 2011 in Houston, TX. She was born January 13, 1936 in Zurich, KS. to Arthur and Julia (Coupal) Berland. She married Ronald Hall. He died in November, 1959. She married Melvin Ruder on February 13, 1961 in Hays. She and her husband Mel were former owners and operators of Al's Chickenette in Hays. For the last 18 years, she was at home in Houston, Texas, where she worked for The Gallup Organization before retiring. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Houston. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Ward of Spring, TX, and Laura Rolo of Houston, foster son Stan Dreiling of Hays, a brother Dean Berland of Clifton, CO, four sisters, Margaret Comeau of Topeka, Helen Harrison of Folsom, CA, Jean Hake of Ukiah, CA, and Doris Ostrowski of Rochester Hills, MI., eight grandchildren, Jeff Ward and Phillip Ward of Spring, TX. Ashley Rolo and Arryn Rolo of Houston, TX. Aubrey Dreiling and Austin Dreiling of Hays, KS, and Ryan Sparks and Nicholas Ruder of Evergreen, CO., and 4 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, two infant daughters, Paula and Christine, and son Bradley D. Ruder. Services will be at 10:00am on Friday, May 13, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening, from 5pm to 8pm and Friday 9am- 9:30 am at Brock's North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601. A parish wake service will be Thursday at 7pm also at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Annette Ruder Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date.
