Fred Keller

Fred Keller, age 99, of Ellis passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at Meadow Lark Place in Ellis. He was born November 26, 1916 on the family farm in Rural Ellis County, Kansas to Faldin and Louise (Ebert) Keller. He married Marie Schonthaler on April 18, 1940 at St. John's Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on August 4, 1982. He married Cecelia (Thyfault) Ruder on December 27, 1983 in Hays, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2007.

Fred was a longtime farmer also worked for the ASCS office now called FSA in Rooks County for 25 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Men's Group, Township Board and the Plainville Rural Hospital Board.

He is survived by his daughter, Marla Hamilton and husband Ernest of McCook, Nebraska; a sister, Velma Sherfick of Ellis; grandchildren, Kristi Morton and husband Matt of Ellis, Keith Darnall and wife Paige of Stillwell, Kansas and Sarah Couse and husband Jerrod of Palco, Kansas and hus great grandchildren, Raylen, Tyler, Stella, Carly, Trinity and Hope.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a brother, Edward Keller; a son-in-law, Edward Darnall and a brother-in-law, Merle Sherfick.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church located 7 1/2 miles north of Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday 4 PM - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Tuesday visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to PFSM-Parish Nurse Ministry.
